Description
These beautiful two-piece dresses are made with traditional Ajrakh hand block printing. The motifs are inspired by flora and fauna. Motives as called in the local language are speech, badam buto, mahr, mifudi, champakali, kharekh, keri, koyyaro (spider), tavith chokdi, penccho and royal. Here you would see pine and khajoor trees motifs paired with historical architecture patterns. The natural colours derived are red from alizarin, blue from indigo, black from iron acetate,white from resist and so on.
Ajrakh Fabric is a completely sustainable process of hand block printing right from preparing the cloth with camel dung, harde, and other herbs for better absorption of natural colors. It takes complete 16 days to prepare the final product.Products made from this Ajrakh are sarees, dress materials, stoles, dupattas, multipurpose fabric, home linen, and so on. The base cloths used are cotton, masru silk, velvet and other types of silks. The longevity of fabric and color is three to four decades if used with proper care. It is advised to wash these products with eco-friendly washing solutions.
Wash Care - Dry wash is advised in case of silk products. Length - Top 2 Meters , Dupatta 2.5 Meters

Abdul Jabbar Habib Khatri is from Bhuj Kachh. He has completed his course from Somaiya Kala Vidyalaya. Ajrakh is the love of his life! This has been his family tradition for 5 generations. He along with his family members continues to adore this sustainable art form with utmost dedication and passion. A pandemic could not and cannot deter their willpower though it left them with no proper flow of income. And why not!
